WHOProgram Assistant for VDI
(SSA for an initial period of seven months)
Purpose of the Post
This consultancy will The Program assistant will assist Stop the Transmission of Polio (STOP) consultant in Xaysomboun province.
Description of Duties:
The program assistant for VDI is responsible for completing the following tasks and activities, including but not limited to:
- Support the province, districts and health facilities for the development of micro-planning as well as planning and monitoring of Vaccine Preventable Diseases (VPDs) surveillance program.
- Liaise with the provincial health office and district health offices for all logistic arrangements for field activities.
- Travel to districts and health facilities and assist the immunization and surveillance program-related activities.
- Participate in planning, implementation and monitoring of SIAs as well as the routine immunization with particular emphasis on polio eradication and measles elimination activities in the province.
- Assist the provinces and districts to identify high-risk areas and silent district/health centres to improve the immunization and VPDs surveillance activities in the identified areas.
- Provide the required support for the translation from English to Lao and from Lao to English to the STOP team participants.
- Assist province and districts in recording, reporting and analysing the immunization and surveillance data to improve the data quality management and decision-making process.
- Write a monthly report and submit to the WHO country office.
Education:
- University degree in public health, public administration, or related sciences or equivalent professional training from a recognized university.
Knowledge & skills:
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Have the ability to prepare correspondence, summaries of meetings and other documentation.
- Have the ability to work harmoniously in a team, adapt to diverse education and cultural background and maintain a high standard of personal conduct.
Experience:
- At least 1 years working experience at the national or provincial level in development and implementation of immunization, VPDs surveillance or other programmes.
- Previous work experience in World Health Organization (WHO) or nongovernmental and/or with regional or international organizations is desirable.
Language:
- Strong knowledge of written and spoken English and Lao is required.
- Knowledge of other local languages is a plus.
