WHOPublic Health Surveillance Assistant (WHO Health Emergencies Programme)
(Special Service Agreement, for initial period of 6 months)
Purpose of the Post:
To provide technical support for WHO Health Emergencies Programme and Assist the Ministry of Health, National Centre for Laboratory Epidemiology (NCLE) MoH.
Description of Duties:
In collaboration with the Ministry of Health of Lao PDR, the WHO Representative, the WHO Health Emergency Programme team, the incumbent will perform the following functions:
- Assist NCLE in data entry and management and monitoring and supervision of surveillance for communicable diseases including Covid-19.
- Assist NCLE in data analysis, and preparation of situation reports including for Covid-19.
- Assist NCLE in the strengthening of influenza surveillance and other surveillance systems including notifiable diseases and event-based surveillance systems.
- Assist NCLE in conducting investigations and response to disease outbreaks.
- Assist MOH in supporting the Lao Field Epidemiology Training Programme.
- Attend meetings, trainings or workshops and other related events as requested, for example, Emergency Operation Center meetings, and provide simultaneous/consecutive interpretation and written summaries;
- Other duties as assigned by the NCLE and WHO Health Emergency (WHE) Programme.
Education:
University Bachelor’s degree in Medical Sciences or related field or its equivalent professional training. A background in public health is preferred.
Knowledge & skills:
- Demonstrated skills of translating and interpreting from English into Lao and vice versa;
- Demonstrated knowledge of data entry and management;
- Ability to work independently under pressure and to deliver high-quality work on-time;
- Good interpersonal skills and ability to work as a member of a team;
- Excellent oral and written communication skills;
- Excellent computer skills in using Microsoft Word, Excel, PPT.
Experience:
- Essential: At least one year work experience in the area of public health
- Desirable: Working with communicable disease surveillance and response
Language:
Essential: Fluency in the English language (reading, written and spoken)
Other skills (e.g. IT): Proficiency in standard MS Office applications.
