The World Health Organization has a vacancy for the position of:
Influenza Laboratory technician (WHO Health Emergencies Programme)
(Special Service Agreement, for initial period of 1 Year)
Purpose of the Post:
To provide technical support on influenza surveillance to the National Center for Laboratory and Epidemiology (NCLE), MoH.
Description of Duties:
In collaboration with the Ministry of Health of Lao PDR, the WHO Representative, the WHO Health Emergency Programme team, the incumbent will perform the following functions:
- Support national influenza center (NIC) which located at NCLE to strengthen influenza surveillance by providing trainings and supervise influenza sentinel sites on sample collection, transportation, storage, and biosafety.
- Support NIC to conduct influenza monitoring visit at influenza sentinel sites to ensure safety and best practice for sample collection and transportation.
- Assist virology laboratory in NCLE on sample processing and performing of influenza virus and SARS CoV-2 testing by real-time RT-PCR.
- Assist virology laboratory in NCLE in strengthening of biosafety and laboratory quality management systems.
Knowledge & skills:
- Demonstrated knowledge of medical laboratory testing.
- Ability to work independently under pressure and to deliver high-quality work on-time.
- Good interpersonal skills and ability to work as a member of a team.
- Basic computer skills.
Education:
Essential: Diploma in medical technology from a recognized university/collage.
Experience:
Essential: At least two years substantial work experience in public health laboratory, particularly in real-time RT-PCR testing for viruses, implementing of biosafety and laboratory quality management system.
Desirable: Working experience in real-time RT-PCR for influenza virus is an advantage.
Languages:
Essential: Excellent knowledge of local language (speaking, reading & writing)
Desirable: Basic English
Other skills (e.g. IT): Proficiency in standard MS Office applications.
