The World Health Organization has a vacancy for the position of:
COVID Laboratory technician (WHO Health Emergencies Programme)
(Special Service Agreement, for initial period of 1 Year)
Purpose of the Post:
Two (2) SSAs to provide technical support on COVID-19 sample collection, processing and testing to the virology laboratory in National Center for Laboratory and Epidemiology (NCLE), MoH..
Description of Duties:
In collaboration with the Ministry of Health of Lao PDR, the WHO Representative, the WHO Health Emergency Programme team, the incumbent will perform the following functions:
- Assist virology laboratory in NCLE on sample collection of suspected COVID-19 cases and passengers at the airport.
- Assist virology laboratory in NCLE on processing of COVID-19 specimen.
- Assist virology laboratory in NCLE on performing of real-time RT-PCR of COVID-19.
- Support NCLE on data management by using PACS software and national database.
- Support NCLE on inventory especially COVID-19 related reagent and supplies.
- Support NCLE on on-site training and supervision of COVID-19 testing by real-time RT-PCR and portable PCR at the provincial level as needed.
Knowledge & skills:
- Demonstrated knowledge of specimen collection and virology testing.
- Ability to work independently under pressure and to deliver high-quality work on-time.
- Good interpersonal skills and ability to work as a member of a team.
- Good oral and written communication skills.
- Good computer skills.
Education:
Essential: Diploma in medical technology from a recognized university/collage.
Experience:
Essential: At least two years substantial work experience in public health laboratory, particularly respiratory sample collection, molecular virology testing, implementing of biosafety and laboratory quality management system.
Desirable: Working experience in real-time RT-PCR for SARS CoV-2 virus is an advantage.
Languages:
Essential: Excellent knowledge of local language (speaking, reading & writing)
Desirable: Basic English
Other skills (e.g. IT): Proficiency in standard MS Office applications.
